Frequently asked questions
Getting started & billing
What does CashflowCycles do?
CashflowCycles connects to your business bank accounts through Plaid, rebuilds your cash position over the past 12 months and forecasts it 3, 6 or 12 months ahead. It also shows the payments coming due in the next six weeks, sends alerts when cash or spending needs attention and produces KPI reports. The app and this site are available in English and French.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. First-time subscribers get a 30-day free trial, so you can connect your bank accounts and see forecasts built from your own transactions before you pay anything. After the trial, plans are billed monthly or annually, and annual billing saves 20%. Payments are processed by Stripe.
How much does it cost and what changes between plans?
Starter is $29/month, Growth $59/month and Scale $119/month; annual billing saves 20%. The plans differ in the number of bank connections (2, 5 or 15), users (1, up to 3 or up to 10), alert types (2, 6 or all 9) and KPI reports (5 on Starter, 13 on Growth and Scale). Growth and Scale also add full transaction history, CSV export and email alerts.
Where do I manage my subscription and find my invoices?
Open Manage Subscription from the account menu in the app. There you can change plans, and the Manage Billing button opens the Stripe billing portal, where you update your payment method, cancel your subscription and download past invoices for your records or your accountant.
Is there a guide to the app itself?
Yes. An in-app user manual covers every page of CashflowCycles, in English and in French. It explains what each screen shows and how to use it. For questions about managing cash flow in general, our free cash flow guides are also available on the Resources page.
Bank connections
How do I connect my bank account?
Bank accounts are connected through Plaid. From the app, you open Plaid Link, choose your bank and sign in on Plaid's secure screen. Once the connection is made, your accounts, balances and transactions appear in CashflowCycles. Starter includes 2 bank connections, Growth 5 and Scale 15.
Does CashflowCycles see my bank password?
No. Plaid handles the sign-in with your bank, so CashflowCycles never sees or stores your bank login credentials. The access granted is read-only: CashflowCycles can read balances and transactions to build your forecasts, but it cannot move money or make payments from your accounts.
How often are my transactions updated?
Transactions and balances sync automatically once a day. If you want the latest figures sooner, for example right before a meeting with your accountant or a payroll run, you can start a manual refresh from the app at any time.
How far back can I search and export transactions?
On Starter, transaction search covers the last 90 days. Growth and Scale give you search across your full transaction history. Growth and Scale can also export transactions to a CSV file, which opens in any spreadsheet program. CSV is the export format currently available.
Forecasts & alerts
How far ahead do forecasts go?
You can forecast your cash position 3, 6 or 12 months ahead. Next to the forecast, CashflowCycles shows your historical cash position over the past 12 months, reconstructed from today's balance and the transactions recorded in your connected accounts, so you can compare where you were with where you are heading.
Which forecasting models are used?
Three models are available: a moving average, which is the most conservative, a linear trend and a polynomial model. Each model needs a minimum number of months of transaction history before it can produce a forecast, so with a short history some models may not be available yet.
What do the base, best and worst cases mean?
Every forecast shows a base case along with a best case and a worst case. The width of that range is not a fixed percentage: it comes from the model's own error when it is tested against your past cash flow. The more predictable your history, the narrower the range.
What is the Obligation Radar?
The Obligation Radar is a six-week view of committed payments coming up, such as remittances, payroll and bills, set against the cash you have on hand. It helps you spot a week where obligations would exceed available cash early enough to act on it.
Can I test what-if scenarios?
Yes. On the six-week Obligation Radar ledger, you can simulate losing a client, which uses that client's measured monthly value, changing your revenue, or adding a new monthly cost. You see the effect on your cash over the coming weeks before you make the decision.
Which alerts are included?
Starter includes 2 alert types: Cash Runway and Projection. Growth includes 6 and Scale all 9. Spending alerts, on Growth and Scale, detect burn-rate acceleration, missed income, unusual spending spikes, new vendors, vendor concentration risk and price increases. Alerts can also be sent by email on Growth and Scale.
Team & security
Can I invite my team?
Starter includes 1 user, Growth up to 3 and Scale up to 10. An administrator invites each member and assigns them a role. Administrators can also suspend a member, reactivate them later or remove them from the account entirely, so access stays under your control.
Where is my data stored?
The application and its database are hosted on Amazon Web Services in Canada, in the Montréal region (ca-central-1). Data is encrypted in transit with HTTPS/TLS and at rest with AWS storage encryption. Each customer's data is kept separate from every other customer's, and that separation is covered by automated tests.
Can I turn on two-step verification?
Yes. You can protect your account with two-step verification using an authenticator app. During setup you scan a QR code with the app, which then generates the time-based codes (TOTP) you enter when signing in, in addition to your password.
How do you handle cookies and personal information?
Advertising cookies are only used after you give your consent, in line with Quebec's Law 25. Bank access goes through Plaid and is read-only, and no bank passwords are stored. Our privacy policy explains what personal information we collect and how we use it.
